It’s about creating a healthy relationship with yourself so you can give you and the rest of the world your best. Self-care means doing things to take care of your mind, body, and soul. It’s implementing activities that promote joy and encourage less stress.
Creating and sticking to a self-care routine strengthens our potential to thrive instead of just survive. As mothers, self-care allows us to show up in the best way for our families and ourselves. Self-care for moms means putting on our own oxygen mask first, so that we can properly apply everyone else’s oxygen mask before the whole plane goes down. Cliche? Maybe. But it is true.

Why Is Self-Care Important?
Instead of staying up too late and eating your feelings, taking care of yourself is getting enough sleep and grabbing the vegetables before the cupcakes or chips. It’s doing things that promote a healthier, happier you.
Sure, there are certainly times when grabbing the cupcake qualifies as taking care of yourself. Or at least over here in my corner it does. Sometimes that sweet treat after the kids go to bed is the best form of self-care I can show myself.
But grabbing the junk doesn’t help us feel better a month from now, it helps us feel better, in the moment. While that’s great, in the moment, establishing healthy habits and routines is the key to feeling healthy a month from now, too.
What Are Examples of Self-Care

Raising Self-Care Stars: Teaching Kids the Way
Now, let’s chat about the mini-mes who look up to you – your children! Your self-care routine isn’t just for you; it’s a lesson plan for them. Show them that taking care of themselves is as important as brushing their teeth or doing their homework. Demonstrate the art of “me-time” by involving them in your self-care rituals. Whether it’s a family dance-off, a cozy reading session, or a nature adventure, make it a shared experience.
Setting the Example: Be Their North Star
Here’s the secret sauce: by putting yourself first sometimes, you’re setting an example that will guide them through life. They’ll learn that self-care isn’t selfish; it’s self-love in action.
Be open with your children about why self-care matters. Teach them that it’s like filling their cups so they can pour love, energy, and kindness into the world. When you prioritize self-care, you become a superhero of self-love, showing your little heroes the path to a balanced and joyful life. So, let’s all sprinkle some self-care stardust and raise a generation of self-care superstars!
Most importantly, take care of yourself! Self-care isn’t selfish at all. Trust me, you deserve it!
Stay courageous,

Great advice! I think too many people get caught up in the fact that self care is elaborate spa-like experiences all the time – luxurious bubble baths by candle light with a glass of wine in hand. However, they overlook the day to day choices that actually have an even bigger impact on our health and well-being!

I completely agree! True self care, to me, is more about doing things you may not want to do so your mind, body, and soul can be free and calm.
